A Call To Action for strong health care reform

Resource (link)

Interfaith Worker Justice has issued a Call To Action which urges us all to call our Senators and Representatives to let them know that it is critical that health care reform be affordable and effective:

My reason for health care reform.

Everyone has a health care story-a problem with insurance or prescription drug coverage or being forced to go to the emergency room for lack of coverage. I have one too! My mother lacked health care coverage. She postponed medical treatment, rationed prescriptions and endured painful symptoms until it was too late. My sisters and I attempted to help but the damage had been done. I still believe her demise was hastened by her inability to get access to affordable treatment. I cry when I think about other families having to endure the same circumstances.

As the health care debate continues, there is an opportunity for people of faith to let their voices be heard! As people of faith committed to economic and social justice, it is time for us to look at the moral imperative that our traditions proclaim and the real lives that are affected by our current health care system.

Interfaith Worker Justice recently adopted this statement on health care reform. We are asking you to weigh in to make sure that health care is affordable, that no one delays care or rations treatment because they lack money. Please do two things today:

* Call both of your Senators and your Representative and let them know that we need to have health care reform that is affordable, so families aren't forced into the situation of having to choose whether to have health care.
* Pass this message on to at least two friends and get them to call. Have your spouse, your co-workers and your friends make calls as well!

Call 866-699-9243 to speak to your elected officials.

P.S. If you are clergy or a religious leader and have a sermon or reflection on health care, please e-mail it to rmanley@iwj.org. We are collecting these to post on a website! We will contact you with details.
